The Women’s Institute sets sail with Wightlink

Members of Old Portsmouth Women’s Institute (WI) enjoyed spectacular views of the Solent from Wightlink’s hybrid flagship Victoria of Wight on a round-trip to Fishbourne.

They were welcomed to the Bridge by Captain Jerry Saltonstall who explained how the ship combines power from conventional engines and batteries to sail round the clock to and from the Isle of Wight. Wightlink has eight ships and catamarans in its fleet and sails from both Portsmouth and Lymington.

Debbie Martin from the WI says: “Many of us live close to the port and see the ferries everyday so it was a treat to climb up to the Bridge and gaze out at yachts, container ships and the busy Solent.”

Captain Jerry adds: “We at Wightlink always do our best to be good neighbours and it was great to welcome the WI onboard to find out more about how we connect their city to the Isle of Wight.”
